The 2-5/16 Adjustable Channel Mount Coupler Stamped 14K, part #31-CTA-400, delivers a strong and adjustable hitch connection for heavy trailers. It fits a 2-5/16″ hitch ball and supports up to 14,000 lbs GTW when paired with properly rated components. As a result, it works well for serious towing applications.
This coupler mounts to an adjustable coupler channel system, which is sold separately. You commonly see this setup on equipment trailers, dump trailers, car haulers, and commercial utility trailers. Because tow vehicles vary in height, the adjustable channel lets you set the coupler where you need it. In turn, the trailer stays level and braking and control improve.
The CTA-400 fits a 3″ wide channel bracket and secures with the included Grade 8 nuts and bolts. This creates a solid clamp-up inside the channel. The thumb-latch opens quickly and closes with a firm, positive action. In addition, the latch handle accepts a padlock, adding security at the hitch point.
The stamped steel body features a black powder coat finish. It resists rust, road spray, and outdoor exposure. At the same time, the coupler meets SAE J684 requirements and includes the proper identification markings for its rating class.
For fit-up planning, dimensions matter. This coupler measures approximately 8-1/4″ from the center of the mounting hole to the front edge. It also fits inside a channel opening around 2-7/8″. Therefore, you can confirm clearance with your tongue and jack before installation.
